Tulane tops USM

HATTIESBURG — Jeremy Schaffer homered and the delivered a game-winning RBI groundout in the top of the 10th to lead No. 23 Tulane over No. 25 Southern Miss 16-15 in a wild affair here Saturday afternoon at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.

The victory snapped a six-game losing to the Golden Eagles for Tulane (18-5 overall, 1-1 C-USA) in a game that featured two ties and two lead changes.

Southern Miss collected a season-high 21 hits as Adam Doleac collected a career-best five hits, while Kameron Brunty, Tyler Koelling and B.A. Vollmuth added three apiece and Isaac Rodriguez and Justin Diliberto added two each.

The Golden Eagles (17-5, 1-1) rallied from two large deficits in the contest, battling back from 7-0 and then 14-8 setbacks.
