BUDE — Franklin County Sheriff James Newman confirmed that two people drowned in Okhissa Lake around 4 p.m. Saturday.

One body was recovered at 6:30 p.m. The search was still on Saturday night for the other victim.

“Divers are in the lake searching right now,” Newman said at approximately 7 p.m. “We had folks here swimming, and I think (two girls) ventured too far out of the swimming area. I understand there was one small girl rescued; the other didn’t make it. We think the guy whose body we are looking for now went out to try to save them.”

Newman said the body they are searching for is an 18- or 19-year-old male.

“You can imagine how the families are taking it,” Newman said.
