NATCHEZ — Cathedral School baseball coach Craig Beesley has led his team to a 14-5 record and a fourth consecutive District 7-1A title this season.

About a month ago, he was honored for his success by being selected as one of the coaches for the Mississippi Crossroads Diamond Club All-Star Game on June 4 at Trustmark Park in Pearl.

Beesley and Loyd Star coach Jonathan Breakfield will coach the 1A/2A/3A South All-Star team.

“It’s a good honor,” Beesley said. “I have been asked to coach (in the game) before but I wasn’t able to coach, but I could this year.”

Unfortunately this is one of the few years Cathedral does not have a player playing in the game, Beesley said.

“We’ve had lots of kids play in the past, this is the first year we haven’t had one (in a long time),” Beesley said. “It’s kind of disappointing (I can’t coach one of our players).”

Beesley will actually be the second coach from his family to coach in the game, his father Ken Beesley coached in the ’83 game, he said.

“We coached together for a while,” Beesley said. “To coach in the same all-star game is going to be an honor.”

Beesley said he and Breakfield selected the team a couple weeks ago and they will report to Hinds Community College for practice June 2.

Beesley looks forward to coaching some of the top talent in the state, he said.

“It’s going to be nice to coach some of the kids I always hear about and never get to play,” Beesley said.

Beesley said two of the pitchers on the team throw over 90 mph and it will be nice to see them play.

The selection process focuses on past coaching success and to be selected the coach has to be a member of the Mississippi Association of Coaches, Beesley said.
