NATCHEZ — Natchez Inc. officials, late last week, began sending invitations to community members for a ceremony announcing a “new major economic development project.”

The invitation says the company’s identity will remain confidential until the announcement, and Executive Director Chandler Russ would not provide details about the company.

“I’m not at liberty to say anything,” he said. “There are ongoing negotiations.”

However, Russ did say Gov. Haley Barbour will attend.

“He will make a major announcement,” Russ said.

Barbour’s name is on the invitation, along with Natchez and Adams County.

The announcement, Russ said, pertains to Natchez and Adams County.

“We have sent out invitations to the announcement ceremony, and (the public) won’t be turned away,” Russ said.

The ceremony is at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Natchez Visitor Reception Center.

Work was ongoing late last week to paint the colonnades outside the visitor center.
