NATCHEZ — Services for Emanuel Gaines, 91, of Natchez, who died Thursday, June 2, 2011, at Adams County Nursing Center, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Jerusalem Baptist Church.

Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home in Bude.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.

Mr. Gaines was born Nov. 28, 1919, in Lorman, the son of Ike and Ida Mae Jones Ballard. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Gaines loved fishing, watching sports, caring for his dog, Jacque, and watching the riverboats on the mighty Mississippi River.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Mamie Ellington Gaines and Gloria Robinson Gaines; grandmother, Amanda Jones; and two brothers, James Ballard Jr. and Norman Joe Ballard.

Survivors include two daughters, Loretta Gaines of California and Renita Gaines Bell of Massachusetts; five sisters, Mabel Gaines Shaw, Mosie Lee Gaines, Emma Gaines, Ruby Gaines and Mary Coleman McElroy; two brothers, L.D. Gaines and wife, Georgia, and Robert Ballard and wife, Frances; a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
