NATCHEZ — The Adams County Sheriff’s Department arrested a man who is wanted for murder out of state.
Nathan Jerrod Johnson, 18, of 2124 General Taylor Ave., Baton Rouge, was reportedly driving 83 miles per hour in a 50 mile-per-hour zone in Adams County, Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said.
When officers checked Johnson’s license, they found that he’d been flagged as a wanted person, Mayfield said.
Monday evening, Johnson was still housed in the Adams County jail, but Mayfield said the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office would be picking him up later that night or sometime today.
Johnson needed to sign an extradition waiver, Mayfield said, which would allow officers to transport him from one state to another.
Mayfield said 99 times out of 100, inmates will waive the right to remain in the state they were arrested in, because otherwise, they’ll have to wait for a hearing that will determine whether that right will be upheld. Until that hearing, they’ll sit in jail.
A comment from the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office could not be obtained Monday.
