NATCHEZ — Services for Edward Benjamin Colwell, 69, who died Monday, June 27, 2011, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Noelle and Denny Read officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.

Mr. Colwell was born Oct. 24, 1941, in Chicago, the son of Edward and Georgia O’Higgins Colwell. He was employed by Chicago Transit Authority for 32 years and retired in 1991, as district superintendent of rail services.

Mr. Colwell served in the Illinois National Guard and was discharged in 1974, with the rank of first lieutenant. He moved to Natchez in 2000, with his wife, Barbara. He was an expert carpenter and cabinet maker and skilled in plumbing, electrical and other related trades. He was an elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Natchez, where while serving as property chairman for a number of years, renovations and maintenance were expertly and lovingly accomplished.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Amanda Fredrickson and husband, Kristian; one granddaughter, Kaylin Fredrickson; one aunt, Lorraine O’Higgins; and a number of cousins.

Pallbearers will be Marvin McDonald, Stephen McNerney, Everette Ratcliffe, Larry Delaughter, Chuck Morehead and Steve Davis.
