Don’t fall victim to the Fourth

All the things we love about the Fourth of July will combine this weekend to make it one of the most dangerous holidays of the year.

Think about it, fire, explosions, beer, boating and human beings who relax and let their guard down.

It’s a recipe for disaster, really.

Any newspaper person or emergency room worker will tell you that holiday weekends are full of trouble. Accidents, fights and general craziness often end celebrations early.

But we know this, so we can be prepared.

Don’t be stupid this weekend. Authorities have already stressed that the ground is dry and the fire risk is high.

Don’t shoot fireworks into the woods, and don’t shoot them without a water source nearby.

Please closely supervise anyone under the age of 18 if there are any types of fireworks nearby.

Don’t drink and drive.

And don’t let the heat fry your nerves. Our independence is worth celebrating, not an excuse for a good fist fight.

This weekend should be a wonderful time to safely relax with family and friends and honor those who helped make our country free.

Please do your part to make this weekend safe for everyone, including yourself.
