PIERRE PART, La. (AP) — Assumption Parish authorities said a man shot and killed his girlfriend while the woman was holding the couple’s 7-month old baby Wednesday before turning the shotgun on himself.

Sheriff Mike Waguespack said the baby was not harmed.

Waguespack said that Henry Walker shot 26-year-old Heather Dunigan Granier of Vidalia to death at about 7:40 a.m. and then shot himself in the face and chest. He later died from his wounds at a Baton Rouge hospital, the sheriff said.

Waguespack said Walker, 29, had been living with Granier at her parents’ house off La. Highway 70 in Pierre Part. The woman’s step-mother called deputies about 7:40 a.m. Wednesday saying that her daughter had been shot, Waguespack said.

It was the second such killing in Pierre Part since May 17, when 51-year-old Paul French killed himself after gunning down his ex-girlfriend, Michelle Borer, 42, at Landry’s Seafood restaurant.

Funeral arrangements for Granier are incomplete at Young’s Funeral Home.
