HATTIESBURG — The T.M. Jennings 9- and 10-year old and 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars made a trip to Hattiesburg Friday morning to open up play in their district tournaments. Both teams secured victories against Hattiesburg, but one game was much closer than the other.
The 9- and 10-year-old team, led by head coach Osmon Perkins and assistant coach Thomas Dunbar, destroyed the Hattiesburg team by a score of 19-0.
James Singleton got the win for the 9s and 10s. Jakarius Caston was the star at the plate for Natchez, hitting for the cycle in the game.
The 11s and 12s had to battle to get their victory Friday night.
Natchez pulled out a one-run win over the Hattiesburg 11s and 12s behind the pitching of Tavarez Letcher, who got the win.
Tyler Harris and Travez Lyles both doubled for Natchez. Kevontaye Caston tripled and Shavoke Herrington homered.
Head coach Deselle Davis said his team played well, and credited some of the Natchez pitching success to former Natchez High School player Brian Isaac, who has been working with the team.
Both teams will face Hattiesburg again today in Hattiesburg, Davis said.
