NATCHEZ — Services for Richard Josiah Green Jr., 85, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Assumption B.V.M. Catholic Church with the Rev. David O’Connor officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today with a Rosary service at 6:30 p.m., and from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday, both at the church.

Mr. Green was born Jan. 24, 1926, in Natchez, the son of Richard Josiah Green Sr. and Minnie Bell Freeman Green. While serving in the U.S. Marines, he received a Purple Heart while in Iwo Jima. After his service to his country was over, he returned to Natchez and was employed by Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company for a short time before going to work with his father in the family sheet metal business.

Mr. Green was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Annette Tuccio Green; one daughter, Donna Marie Green; two brothers, Lawrence Green and Billy Green; and one sister, Helen Green Freeman.

Survivors include five children, Jerry Green and wife, Cate, of Bossier City, La., Ricky Green and wife, Betty Jo, and Charles Green and wife, Cheryl, all of Berryville, Ark., Robert Green and wife, Judy, of Natchez , and Lisa Garcia and husband, Jerry, of Topeka, Kan.; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Randy Freeman, Danny Freeman, Larry Freeman, Ricky Green Jr., Ryan Green and Greg Green.

The family thanks Adams County Nursing Center for the love and care that was given to dad during his stay with them. To all the nurses and aids, you will be in our prayers.
