Regardless of heat, fall is coming soon

August is more than half over, high school football has started in Mississippi and fall is coming soon regardless of what the thermometer says.

The last week was a good one, even if your favorite football team didn’t pull it out in the end. Let’s look back on a few other things worth smiling about.

4 The City of Natchez received federal funding to construct a walking bridge across the top of Roth Hill. The bridge will be a part of the Natchez Trails project and should give walkers a great, safe view of the Mississippi River. The trails project is one of our area’s best recent additions, and the bridge will help complete the look and feel.

4 The annual Bowie Knife Show took over at the Natchez Convention Center this weekend as dozens of locals and visitors displayed hundreds of antique weapons. We are proud to be home to the Bowie knife’s most famous fight and happy to host those who like to hear the tale.

4 Concordia Parish students headed back to school last week. We hope the school year is the best yet for all teachers and students.

4 Natchez High School student Debra Whitley recently completed a summer study program a the Trent Lott Leadership Institute at Ole Miss. Whitley got college credits and a taste of what college life will be like, and she’s ready, she says. We know her future is bright.

The week to come brings unknown surprises, we are sure, and at least a few of them are bound to be good.
