NATCHEZ — Services for Birdie Lee Jones, 79, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb, will be at noon Saturday at Greater New Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Melvin White officiating.

Burial will follow at Sunset View Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Bateaste Memorial Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Ms. Jones was born in 1932, in Adams County, the daughter of Mary Grant Dorsey and Louis J. Billings. She was a 1951 graduate of Brumfield High School. She was retired and had been employed by Mangles Department Store, Graceland’s and Hollyshop Department Store, all in Natchez.

Ms. Jones was a member of Greater New Zion Baptist Church and served as a choir member until her illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Jerry L. Douglas; three sisters, Lottie M. Clayton, Jessie B. Davis and Louise Scott; one brother, Cleveland C. Smith Jr.; one nephew, Robert Clayton; and a dedicated soulmate, Herman Darsey.

Survivors include one loving daugher, Elaine D. Thomas and husband, Arthur, who was a devoted son-in-law; two sons, Michael Jones Sr. and wife, Regina, and Elijah Jones; six grandchildren, Marlon Jones Sr., Shalita Henderson and husband, Robert, Brandi Jones, Michael Jones Jr., Davonna Jones and Javon Jones; one step-granddaughter, Shavonne Kennedy; one brother, Charles Douglas; seven great-grandchildren and one step great-granddaughter; one devoted friend of the family, Alberta Robinson; and a number of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
