Adams County Justice Court Cases Week of Aug. 26-Sept. 1:
Kendric Smith charged with sale of a controlled substance. Case bound over to a grand jury.
Larry Sherwood guilty of malicious mischief.

Adams County Circuit Court Cases Thursday, Aug. 4:
Crystal Dennis Surrena pleaded guilty to credit card use with intent to defraud. Sentenced to three years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections. After serving seven months, the remaining balance is suspended and the defendant is placed on post-release supervision. Must pay all court cost and a prosecutor’s fee of $200. Credit given for time already served. Defendant shall enroll in and attend a narcotics anonymous and/or alcohol anonymous program.
Monday, Aug. 1:
Jadhai Davis pleaded guilty to grand larceny. Sentenced to six years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Court found the defendant was low risk, nonviolent, and a proper subject for placement in an intensive supervision program. Placed on intensive supervision, or house arrest, with the MDOC for one full calendar year, unless terminated sooner, for good cause, by order of the court. Must pay all court costs and a prosecution fee of $200.
James C. Luster III was previously sentenced to 11 years in the MDOC for armed robbery. The court further retained jurisdiction for one year for placement into the R.I.D. program. Defendant was committed to the custody of the Adams County sheriff for placement in the R.I.D. program. Defendant completed the R.I.D. program. The remaining balance of the defendant’s sentence be served on post-release supervision through the MDOC for 10 years, with the first five years being formal reporting supervision and the remaining five years being informal non-reporting supervision. Must pay restitution of $185 and all court costs and a prosecution fee of $200.
Chanterrica L. Johnson pleaded guilty to uttering a forgery (count II). Sentenced to five years in the MDOC, suspended, with the defendant placed on probation for five years. Must pay all court costs and a prosecution fee of $200. Pursuant to the plea agreement, the remaining five counts of uttering a forgery and the charge of conspiracy to commit a crime were retired to the inactive files.
Kendric McGee pleaded guilty to credit card fraud. Sentenced to three years in the MDOC. After receiving full credit for all time served in the Adams County Jail, the remaining two years are to be served on post release supervision. Must pay restitution of $151.24, all court costs and a prosecution fee of $200. Jones also pleaded guilty to identity theft (count II). Sentenced to seven years in the MDOC, with the court retaining jurisdiction for one year for placement of the defendant into the R.I.D. program with the MDOC. Must pay a fine of $1,000, restitution of $73.41, all court costs and a prosecution fee of $200. Pursuant to the plea agreement, count I and count III through count VII of the indictment was dismissed. On the condition that the defendant pays the restitution of $73.41, remaining count will be dismissed.
Sonya Robertson pleaded guilty to aggravated assault. Sentenced to 11 years in the MDOC. After receiving full credit for any time already served in the Adams County Jail, the remaining balance to be served on post-release supervision for 10 years, with the first five years to be on formal supervised post-release supervision through the MDOC and the remaining five years to be informal non-supervised post-release supervision. Must pay all court costs and a prosecution fee of $200.
Brandon C. Collins pleaded guilty to aggravated assault. Sentenced to 11 years in the MDOC. After receiving full credit for any time already served in the Adams County Jail, the remaining balance to be served on post-release supervision for 10 years, with the first five years to be on formal supervised post-release supervision through the MDOC, and the remaining five years to be informal non-supervised post-release supervision. Must pay all court costs and a prosecution fee of $200. Pursuant to the plea agreement, remaining case will be dismissed.
Fabian Diaz pleaded guilty to the lesser misdemeanor offense of possession of stolen property. Sentenced to six months in the Adams County Jail, with the defendant to receive full credit for any time already served and the remaining balance suspended, with the defendant placed on misdemeanor non-reporting probation for three years. The conditions of the probation are the defendant’s future good behavior. That he violate no laws, and prompt payment in full of all court costs and fees.
Elbert Dukes pleaded guilty to the lesser felony crime of accessory after the fact. Sentenced to five years in the MDOC. After receiving full credit for any time already served in the Adams County Jail, the remaining balance to be served on post-release supervision for four and a half years. Must play all court costs and a prosecution fee.
Devona Thomas pleaded guilty to grand larceny. Sentenced to 10 years in the MDOC. Defendant receives full credit for time already served in custody. The remaining 10 years will be served on post-release supervision with the first five on formal reporting and the remaining five on informal non-reporting. Must pay all court costs and a prosecution fee of $200.00.
Steven Robinson pleaded guilty to uttering a forgery. Sentenced to six years in the MDOC. After serving one year, the remaining portion of the sentence to be served on formal post-release supervision through the MDOC for five years. Defendant to receive full credit for all time already served. Must pay all court costs, including a prosecution fee of $200. Pursuant to the plea agreement, all remaining counts in the indictment against the defendant are retired to the inactive files.
