MEADVILLE — The Franklin County Bulldogs were looking to end their two-game losing streak as they hosted the winless Amite County Trojans Friday night in a battle of former Region 7-3A opponents.

Five different players for Franklin County had a touchdown run and its defense held Amite County to just 135 yards of total offense and forced two turnovers in the Bulldogs’ 38-12 shellacking of the Trojans.

While head coach Rickey O’Quinn was glad to see Franklin County come out on top, there were a few things with which he was not pleased..

“It was a good win. Anytime you win, it’s a good win. Our guys were determined not to drop three in a row,” O’Quinn said. “We had some turnovers I wasn’t happy with. We could have played better.”

Jadarius Davis scored on a 10-yard run and Matt Brasher made the extra point to give the Bulldogs a 7-0 less than two minutes into the ball game. Amite County made it close when Kenneth Weathersby scored on a 1-yard run, but the extra point was no good and with 8:48 remaining in the second quarter, the Trojans trailed 7-6.

From there, Franklin County took over. Trey Hannon scored from 1 yard out with 3:10 left in the second quarter and Brasher made a 25-yard field goal to close out the first half and Bulldogs went into halftime leading 17-6.

Chris Robinson, who had 93 yards on 15 carries, scored on a 9-yard run with 10:19 remaining in the third quarter. Jimmy Barnes scored on a 1-yard touchdown run with 3:42 to go in the quarter and Robinson added the two-point conversion run to put Franklin County ahead 31-6.

Kevin Briggs scored on an 11-yard run with 10:38 left in the ball game to give the Bulldogs a 38-6 lead. Weathersby, who had 73 yards on 27 carries, scored on a 1-yard run with 2:43 to go for the game’s final points.

Wilkinson County 30,

Baker (La.) 18

WOODVILLE — Wilkinson County scored 18 points in the second quarter and that proved to be huge as the Wildcats defeated the Baker (La.) Buffaloes Friday night.

“It was a big win. We needed it. It evens up our record, which is big for the kids and for the community,” Wilkinson County head coach Kenneth Brown said. “It’s just good for the program.”

The Wildcats led 6-0 after one quarter of play before the second quarter turned into a scoring frenzy. But by the time halftime had arrived, the Wildcats was still out in front with a 24-12 lead over Baker.

Both teams scored six points in the third quarter to close out the scoring.

Wilkinson County (2-2) hosts Ferriday for homecoming at 7:30 p.m. next Friday.

South Delta 20,

Jefferson County 12

ROLLING FORK — South Delta was undefeated coming into Friday night’s matchup with Jefferson County, but the Bulldogs were forced to rally to overcome an early 12-0 deficit.

Monroe Barnes scored on a 3-yard run and then threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Devion Bradley to give Jefferson County that 12-0 lead midway through the first quarter. But with 3:56 to go in the same quarter, Ricky Green picked off a Barnes pass and returned it 90 yards for a touchdown to make it a 12-6 game.

Then in the second quarter, Green scored on an 8-yard run to tie the game at 12-12 and Hakeem Johnson gave the Bulldogs the lead for good with his 20-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion run.

Jefferson County (1-4) hits the road again next Friday when the Tigers play at South Pike. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m.

“We protected the ball well,” Block head coach Benny Vault Jr. said. “The defense dominated. We played real tough defense.”
