NATCHEZ — Services for Alvin Cardell “Nookie” Starks, 40, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Greater St. Mark Baptist Church with the Rev. Maurice Irving officiating.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home in Fayette.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mr. Starks was born March 25, 1971, in Adams County, the son of Grover C. Buie Sr. and Estella Louise Starks. He was employed by Nikki’s Restaurant in Vidalia and Ruby Tuesday in Natchez.

He was preceded in death by his mother; two sisters, Tina Marie Starks and Tijuana Lashai Kneeland; and father-in-law, Samuel Stewart Sr.

Survivors include a loving and devoted wife, Mary Martin Starks; two sons, Derrick Stewart and wife, Stephanie, of Baton Rouge and Darrius Martin of Natchez; his adoptive parents, Marvin and JoNetta Doggett of Memphis, Tenn.; his father of Fayette; two sisters, Tracy Starks-Lowery and Stacy Elliott and husband, Tony, all of Memphis; five brothers, Lee Starks, Derrick Doggett and Marquette Shaw, all of Memphis, Michael Starks and wife, Tara, of Cedar Hill, Texas and Keith Doggett of Atlanta; two godchildren, Chandrell Gibson and TyKarrius Norman; mother-in-law, Adeline “Madea” Stewart and Joe “Old Boy” Carter; two sisters-in-law, Mattie Thomas and husband, Windel, and Pamela Dean, all of Natchez; two brothers-in-law, Samuel Norman and wife, Cherry, and Irving Dean, all of Natchez; one grandchild, Devin Ford of Natchez; three godmothers, Willie Mae Smith, Sadie Hayes and Sharon Smith, all of Fayette; three uncles; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
