Saints easily get shutout vs. Central Private, 38-0

NATCHEZ — Trinity Episcopal used a balanced attack on offense and a stifling defense to shut out Central Private 38-0 Friday night.
The Saints tallied 196 yards on the ground on 29 carries and threw for 184 yards as Trinity improved to 6-1 on the season.
All-purpose athlete Tip McKenzie scored the Saints’ first two touchdowns, one on a 3-yard run and another on a 36-yard pass from quarterback Scott Turner.
Tanner Cage added a 4-yard run with 2:53 left in the first quarter to give Trinity 19-0 lead.
The Saints scored one touchdown in each of the remaining quarters. McKenzie pulled in an 89-yard touchdown reception with 10:23 left in the second quarter to give Trinity a 26-0 lead at intermission.
McKenzie added one more touchdown to an already impressive night when he had a 72-yard punt return with 8:50 to go in the third.
Caleb Cross scored Trinity’s final touchdown of the game on a 24-yard run with 2:40 left to play.
McKenzie only rushed four times for 34 yards, while Cage tallied 12 carries for 76 yards. Cross and Zach Young also had four carries each and both finished with 34 yards.
Turner was 5-for-8 in passing with 184 yards. McKenzie’s two touchdown catches were his only receptions of the game, and he finished with 125 yards through the air.
Peyton Young also had one catch for 35 yards for Trinity. Jake Winston had two catches for 24 yards.
On defense, Winston finished with two interceptions, while Trey Fleming had one fumble recovery.
The Saints came into Friday’s contest ranked No. 1 in The Clarion-Ledgers MAIS Class AA poll. They will host Prairie View next Friday.
