WOODVILLE — Amite School Center provided Wilkinson County Christian Academy with several early Christmas presents, allowing the Rams to light the Rebels up like a Christmas tree.

WCCA took advantage of two fumble recoveries and one interception return en route to a 38-0 shutout. Another Rams touchdown was set up on a fake punt that left L.J. Jackson wide open downfield, putting the Rams inside the ASC 10.

WCCA head coach Ray McDaniel said he was pleased with the way his players came out in their final regular-season home game.

“I was extremely pleased with our kids,” McDaniel said. “I thought they came out with great effort in the first half and made plays all over the field, offensively and defensively.”

The Rams got the ball first and scored the old-fashioned way, driving down the field and punching it in on the ground. WCCA was able to convert a fourth-and-four situation, and a couple of plays later, Kaleb Sterling scored his first touchdown of the night on a 17-yard carry.

The Rams pushed ASC back deep in their own territory on the ensuing possession, and on third down, Rebels quarterback Brandon Terrell attempted a pass, only to have it picked off by Trenton Hall at the ASC 8-yard line. Hall ran it in, giving the Rams a 12-0 lead after one.

The second quarter saw four more touchdowns for WCCA. The first came on a 37-yard run by Sterling after the Rams were able to force a fumble while the Rebels were driving down the field. Later in the quarter, WCCA was stopped short on third down, but Hall faked a punt and threw to Jackson for a 37-yard reception, WCCA’s only attempted pass of the night.

A few plays later, Duncan Ashley scored on a 1-yard carry to put WCCA up by four touchdowns.

Josh Gayle added to WCCA’s lead with 3:43 to go before intermission when he recovered another Rebels fumble and ran it in from 36 yards out.

“We’ve kind of done that all year,” McDaniel said of the scores off turnovers. “Coach (Albert) Lewis does a great job with our defense, and that’s what he preaches on, making turnovers and scoring off turnovers. We’ve done that all season, it’s nothing new.”

Sterling scored his final touchdown of the night with 51 seconds to go before the half on a 62-yard run. He finished with 122 yards on five carries.

With the win, WCCA (9-1, 6-0) faces a showdown with CENLA Christian Academy on the road next week to decide the MAIS South Central A championship. McDaniel said his team would have to stick to what it does best in order to come out on top.

“We just have to keep playing Ram football,” McDaniel said. “We have to run the football, and defensively we have to get 11 people that want to tackle get to the football, and hopefully, Lord-willing, we’ll come out on top.”
