NATCHEZ — Funeral services for Barney Lee “Booger” Brooks Jr., 65, of Vidalia, who died Friday, Oct. 21, 2011 at his residence, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Howington officiating.
Burial will follow at Pinehill Baptist Church Cemetery in Sicily Island.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Brooks was born Aug. 7, 1946 in Winser, La., the son of Barney Lee Brooks Sr. and Martha Palestine Richardson Brooks. He was a member of the first Baptist Church of Vidalia and served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War.
Mr. Brooks is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Margaret Wright Brooks and his second wife, Gail Powers Brooks; four brothers, Moody Ellerbe, Joe Ellerby, Cecil Ellerbe and J.W. Ellerbe; and two sisters, Ella Ashley and Patricia Ainsworth.
Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Brooks Nawadny and husband Jayson of Vidalia; two grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Landon Nawadny of Vidalia; one sister, Evon Reed and husband Luke of Florida; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; special helpers, Linda Gardner, Hardy Farrar, Jamie Walsworth and Dalton Wiley.
Pallbearers will be Donald Moore, Karl “Bubba” Netherland, Sewell Morgan and Hardy Farrar.
Honorary pallbearers will be, Ronnie Hendricks, Cass Butler, Claude Ryan, Dan Stamper, Don Hughes, Douglas Netherland, Sewall Morgan and Hardy Farrar.
