Louisiana roundups: Ferriday’s roller coaster season continues Friday

STERLINGTON, La. — Ferriday’s up-and-down season continued Friday night as the Trojans lost to the Sterlington Panthers 36-19 in District 2-2A action.
With the loss, Ferriday fell to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in district play. The Trojans play host to Lakeside for Senior Night next Friday at 7 p.m. in their regular-season finale. They still have a shot of making the Class 2A playoffs with a win.
Block 70, St. Mary’s 28
JONESVILLE, La. — Davonte Vault led Block’s ground game with 136 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries as the Bears upended seventh-ranked St. Mary’s of Natchitoches, La. to take over first place in District 4-1A.
Block (5-4, 3-0) jumped out to a 22-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and increased its lead to 38-8 at halftime. Even though the Tigers’ offense was more effective in the second half, their defense had no answer for the Bears’ rushing attack.
VaShawn Davis also had an outstanding game with 99 yards rushing on 16 carries and 61 yards and one touchdown on two receptions. Paul Ramirez had 11 carries for 70 yards and three touchdowns.
This was the second loss in a row for St. Mary’s (6-3, 2-1), which just two weeks ago was the No. 2 team in Class 1A.
Block hosts Northwood-Lena for Senior Night with an opportunity to win the district title outright next Friday at 7 p.m.
Caldwell Parish 31, Vidalia 6
COLUMBIA, La. — The Vidalia Vikings remained winless on the season as the lost to the Caldwell Parish Spartans in a District 3-3A game Friday night.
Vidalia fell to 0-9 overall and 0-4 district play. The Vikings finish their season on the road next Friday at 7 p.m. against Buckeye.
