We know you have your candy bags and buckets ready, and we are happy to inform you that life in the Miss-Lou has been plenty full of treats lately. The tricks, well, they aren’t worth talking about today.

As you celebrate Halloween or attend a fall festival today, take a few minutes to remember some of the not-so-scary things occurring in our community.

• Nearly 40 residents attended the March for Babies Saturday morning, raising $3,900 toward efforts to improve the health of babies in our region. Thanks to those who helped organize this still-new Miss-Lou event. We know our community will help the walk grow.

• Families and children have had a number of Halloween-related activities to choose from this weekend, including the Longwood Carnival and the Chili Cook-Off. We are lucky to live in a community with an abundance of great events to keep us busy.

• Maegan and Sarah Kammerdeiner know how to make you move to the beat, and these sisters may just have a future in music-making. The Vidalia High School students balance school, clubs and music like true artists.

• Concordia Parish schools are taking steps to further connect parents to what happens in the classroom. A new online program allows parents to check their children’s grades daily. The school district has done a great job of reaching out to busy parents — who are so vital in the education process.

Enjoy Halloween — and the treats — but get ready for a busy November.
