NATCHEZ — Graveside services for Dr. Harold C. Hawkins, 87, of Natchez, who died Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 2 p.m. today at the Natchez City Cemetery with the Rev. Russell Wagoner officiating.
Burial will follow under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time today at the funeral home.
Dr. Hawkins was born Sept. 14, 1924, at Breston Plantation in Riverton, La., the son of James Malloy Hawkins Sr. and Henrietta Riser Hawkins.
Dr. Hawkins attended ULM and graduated from Loyola University School of Dentistry in New Orleans. He was a retired dentist who practiced in Columbia, La., Ferriday and Vidalia. He and his partner, H. Hal Garner, were responsible for buying and restoring a number of historical homes in Natchez and the surrounding area. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in Europe and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
Dr. Hawkins was preceded in death by family members; H. Hal Garner; his parents; his stepmother, Lutie Hawkins; one brother, James M. Hawkins Jr.; and one sister-in-law, Maxine Hawkins.
Survivors include one sister, Carolyn Hawkins Carroll and husband, Ben, of Georgia; one brother, Linus T. Hawkins and wife, Barbara, of Jennings, La.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
