Ferriday — The Ferriday Police Department recovered 171 grams of crack cocaine and approximately $5,000 from the vehicle of a Ferriday man who led police on a high-speed chase Tuesday night.

Ferriday Police Chief Johnny Evans said officers were attempting to stop Kendrick Duane Jones, 31, 115 Weaver St., for an obstructed license plate on Sixth Street when Jones fled the officers.

Officers chased Jones on U.S. 84 West toward Jonesville at speeds exceeding 125 miles per hour, Evans said. The Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office was dispatched for backup. The Jonesville Police Department and the Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Office set up roadblocks on both sides of the Jonesville Bridge.

Jones reportedly stopped his car once he got to the roadblock where officers searched the vehicle and discovered the cash and seven crack cookies that totaled 171 grams.

Evans said he is happy officers were able to apprehend Jones and the drugs without any injuries or damage to any equipment.

“Any time we can get anyone selling drugs and drugs off the street, it’s a good thing,” he said.

Jones was charged with obstruction of justice, manufacturing and distribution of scheduled II controlled substance, aggravated flight from an officer, speeding in a school zone and improper vehicle equipment for the obstruction to his license plate. His bond has been set at $85,000.

Jones was also due to appear in court Wednesday morning on similar drug charges stemming from a June 24 arrest.
