NATCHEZ — Natchez singles could get their shot at true love if Natchez is chosen as the location for a new Oprah Winfrey Network reality show called “Lovetown, USA.”
Natchez Mayor Jake Middleton said Natchez is on a BBC Worldwide Productions short list of towns across the country for the matchmaking show.
During the show, a group of expert matchmakers will pair up eligible singles in the city dubbed “Lovetown” over the course of 30 days.
Interested singles ages 20-60 can fill out applications at an open call from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Natchez Visitor Reception Center conference room.
Middleton said a casting representative from BBC Worldwide Productions contacted him last week with interest in Natchez.
“It’s another great opportunity for the city to be exposed to the world and keep people’s mind on Natchez,” Middleton said.
Christine Shaw, vice president of communications at BBC Worldwide Productions, said the show’s creators are looking for a town with a population of 15,000 with a lot of singles and a lot of community spirit. She said the show could bring many different things to Natchez.
“An entire show would be revolving around the town (that is chosen) and bringing a lot of attention to the wonderful culture and wonderful people there,” she said.
It will be up to the people of Natchez, Shaw said, to decide what the show could mean for the town. She said if Natchez is chosen, the show would be specifically based around the city and individuals on the show.
Shaw also said the show’s production team would talk to people around town about what they would like to see featured on the show.
“The key is really getting everyone involved,” she said.
Middleton said representatives from the show could be in Natchez sometime in the next month to tour the city.
The application for the show is 20 pages, and applicants are also asked to include a headshot and full-body photograph.
Applications for the show can be downloaded from visitnatchez.org and dropped off at the open call or e-mailed to LovetownUSA@gmail.com
The deadline is to apply Friday.
