NATCHEZ — The Adams County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an aggravated assault of a man who was originally rumored to have been murdered.

Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said the man was severely injured when he was assaulted Monday in the Roselawn subdivision.

Mayfield said the assault was not reported, and ACSO conducted an investigation after receiving information from several informants and after rumors began to circulate that there was a homicide in Roselawn.

Mayfield said rumors circulated on the social networking Web site Facebook and throughout the community.

Mayfield said the victim is being treated at a hospital, and he could not release any other information because the investigation is ongoing.
