Prep roundups: ACCS remains undefeated at Tallulah

TALLULAH, La. — Tallulah Academy gave a valiant effort against Adams County Christian School in the second half in the varsity girls’ game Tuesday night. But it was the first quarter that did the Lady Trojans in.
Tory Laird scored 24 points and Brandis White had 16 points as the Lady Rebels defeated the Lady Trojans 59-46 Tuesday night to remain undefeated at 14-0.
ACCS dominated Tallulah Academy on both ends of the court in the first quarter, which ended with the Lady Rebels leading 21-6. At halftime, they had a 37-18 advantage. The Lady Trojans tried their best to get back in the game and outscored the Lady Rebels in both the third and fourth quarters. However, the 19-point halftime deficit was too big to overcome.
The Lady Rebels will have a much tougher opponent Friday night when they play at perennial Class AA powerhouse Brookhaven Academy.
Franklin Parish girls 60, Ferriday 52
WINNSBORO, La. — Franklin Parish got a game-high 26 points from Tanesha Pleasant and 15 points from Jalexi Heard as the Lady Patriots held on for an eight-point win over the Ferriday Lady Trojans Tuesday night.
Franklin Parish looked like its was on its way to an easy win over a very young Ferriday team after a dominant first quarter culminated in an 18-9 lead. But the Lady Trojans would not go away quietly as the cut the Lady Patriots’ lead to just five points at halftime, 27-22.
The Lady Patriots then back into their rhythm in the third quarter and led 44-33 by the end of the quarter. Ferriday was led by MeElle Reed and TreNia Melancon with 16 points each. The Lady Trojans (1-6) will take on Ouachita Christian on Wednesday, Dec. 28 at the Sicily Island Tournament at a time to be determined.

Franklin Parish 40
WINNSBORO, La. — First Franklin Parish didn’t score a single point on its home court in the first quarter. Then they trailed Ferriday by five points at the end of three quarters. And the Patriots almost came back to win the game.
But almost was not good enough. The Trojans withstood Franklin Parish’s fourth-quarter rally for a one-point win over the Patriots Tuesday night to get back to the .500 mark for the season at 4-4.
Charles Chandler led Ferriday with a game-high 13 points and Richard Jefferson had eight points. The Trojans next play at the Sicily Island Tournament, which takes place Dec. 28-30.
Franklin County girls 51,
McComb 46 (OT)
MEADVILLE — Four quarters was not enough to determine the winner of Tuesday night’s varsity girls’ game between McComb and Franklin County. So it went into overtime.
And the Lady Bulldogs came out on top after outscoring the Lady Tigers 10-5 in the extra session. Franklin County was led by Toni Robinson with 13 points and Kierra Collins with 12 points.
The Lady Bulldogs improved to 5-3 on the season and they next play at Tylertown Friday night.
Port Gibson boys 67,
Wilkinson County 66
PORT GIBSON — Even though Port Gibson’s varsity boys’ team is one of the top teams in all of Class 4A, the Blue Waves nearly let victory slip away against a talented but young Wilkinson County team Tuesday night.
Port Gibson led Wilkinson County 35-29 at halftime and 53-45 at the end of the third quarter. But the Wildcats mounted a furious rally and outscored the Blue Waves 21-14. Yet they needed to make a few more stops to pull off the upset.
Adrian Barnes led Port Gibson with 27 points and Devonate Tolliver chipped in with 11 points. Wilkinson County (2-9) was led by Matthew Kelly with 20 points and Devin Voorhies with 13 points. The Wildcats next take on Salem on Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 4 p.m. at the Dexter Invitational.

Wilkinson County 52
PORT GIBSON — Andreshae Spiller led Port Gibson with 21 points and Kentija Tarleton added 19 points as the Lady Blue Waves defeated the Wilkinson County Lady Wildcats Tuesday night.
Port Gibson, one of the top teams in Class 4A, led Wilkinson County 30-21 at halftime and 45-34 at the end of the third quarter.
The Lady Wildcats will next play in the Dexter Invitational, which takes place Dec. 27-30, against an opponent to be announced.
Dodson girls 57, Monterey 47
DODSON, La. — Kaley Baker led Monterey with 16 points and Ellen Bairnsfather finished with 15 points, but it was not enough as the Lady Wolves fell to the Dodson Lady Panthers Tuesday night.
Monterey trailed Dodson 28-24 at halftime, but the Lady Panthers put the game away by outscoring the Lady Wolves 17-9 in the third quarter for a commanding 45-33 lead. Dodson had four players scoring in double figures and was led by Weeks with 16 points and Hall with 15 points.
The Lady Wolves (10-4) host LaSalle Thursday night.
Monterey boys 69, Dodson 53
DODSON, La. — Thanks to a game-high 22 points from Dillon Smith and 12 points from Cole Fancher, the Monterey Wolves got past the Dodson Panthers Tuesday night.
Even though Monterey scored 25 points in the second quarter, the Wolves led by just six points at the half. But in the third quarter, the Wolves asserted themselves and outscored the Panthers 20-7 for a 57-38 lead.
Monterey (7-6) plays host to LaSalle Thursday night.
Block boys 58, Plainview 36
JONESVILLE, La. — Dorian Bowman scored 14 points and Monte Washington added 11 points as the Block Bears took care of the Plainview Hornets Tuesday night for their second straight win.
Block (3-5) took a 25-18 lead into halftime and then stretched its lead to double digits at 39-18 at the end of three quarters. The Bears will take on Caldwell Tournament host Caldwell Thursday at 8:30 p.m.
