VICKSBURG — It was a tale of two halves Saturday afternoon between Trinity Episcopal, ranked No. 4 in Class AA poll, and Porter’s Chapel, the fifth-ranked team in Class A.

After a sluggish first quarter, Trinity Episcopal took control in the second quarter to go up by eight points at halftime. But Porter’s Chapel was looking to avenge a 20-point loss to the Saints back on Dec. 5 — its only loss of the season so far.

And the Eagles did so by dominating the Saints in the second half with a combination of balanced scoring and tough defense en route to a 62-45 win.

The Saints put up 20 points in the second quarter to take a 26-18 lead into halftime. This after they led just 6-5 at the end of the opening quarter. However, the Eagles not only got back in the game, but they took the lead by the end of the third quarter with a defense that forced Trinity into turnovers and bad shots.

As that quarter came to an end, Porter’s Chapel had a 39-36 lead. And the Eagles kept up the defensive intensity in the fourth quarter, which enabled them to outscore the Saints 23-9 for the stunning 17-point win.

Porter’s Chapel (9-1) was led by Kawayen Gatson with 19 points, Alton Burden with 16 points and Ted Brisco with 15 points. Tanner Cage scored a game-high 25 points, which included 8-of-9 from the free-throw line, but he was the only player for Trinity Episcopal (7-1) to score in double figures. The Saints host CENLA Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

VICKSBURG — Rosie Woods scored 11 points while Abbey Ashmore and Murphy Aldridge had eight points apiece as the Trinity Episcopal Lady Saints snapped a three-game losing skid with a big win over the Porter’s Chapel Lady Eagles Saturday afternoon.

Trinity Episcopal took control of the game when it outscored Porter’s Chapel 14-3 in the second quarter for a 23-7 halftime lead. But unlike the varsity boys’ game, the Lady Saints made sure there would be no comeback by the Lady Eagles in the second half by adding to their lead. Even though neither team got into double digits in the third quarter, Trinity outscored Porter’s Chapel 9-5. And in the fourth quarter, the Lady Saints had 13 points to 11 for the Lady Eagles.

The Lady Saints got back to the .500 mark at 5-5 with the win and next play host to CENLA Christian Academy at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
