AMITE, La. — Less than 24 hours after falling to the second-ranked Bowling Green School by 33 points, Oak Forest Academy faced another tough opponent in the Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels.
They played much better against ACCS than they did in their matchup with Bowling Green, but it was not quite enough as the Lady Rebels squeaked out a 61-56 come-from-behind win over the Lady Yellow Jackets Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Rebels took a 32-26 lead into halftime, but the Lady Yellow Jackets picked up the pressure on defense and that helped them outscore ACCS 17-9 in the third quarter for a 43-41 lead. But the Lady Rebels squashed any thoughts of an upset as they shot the ball better in the fourth quarter and ended up scoring 20 points to just 13 for Oak Forest.
Brandis White led the Lady Rebels with a game-high 27 points to go with 10 rebounds. Jessica Reynolds had 13 points and Tory Laird scored 11 points. Hannah Neal led the Lady Yellow Jackets with 18 points while Lindsey Neal added 13 points and Meaghan Durand chipped in with 10 points.
With the win, ACCS improved to 16-1 — its best record at this point in the season since the 2006-2007 season when the Chuck Bauerle-coached Lady Rebels were 16-3. ACCS hosts Cathedral on Thursday at 6 p.m. — which is a change from its original starting time of 4 p.m.
Oak Forest boys 65, ACCS 33
AMITE, La. — Caleb Brumfield led Oak Forest Academy with a game-high 17 points and Trent Burns added 12 points as the Yellow Jackets rolled past the Adams County Christian School Rebels Tuesday afternoon.
After taking a 16-10 lead over ACCS by the end of the first quarter, Oak Forest took control of the game by not allowing the Rebels to get into any type of a rhythm when they had the ball. And in each of the final three quarters, ACCS scored no more than nine points. On the other hand, the Yellow Jackets scored 16, 17 and 16 points, respectively.
Brandon Walker led ACCS (1-11) with 15 points. However, he was the only Rebels player to reach double figures. ACCS plays host to Cathedral Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
