Lady Rebels win big

MENDENHALL — Brandis White led Adams County Christian School with 25 points and 10 rebounds as the Lady Rebels rolled to a 65-21 win over the Jackson Victors Wednesday afternoon at the Simpson Academy Tournament.
Tory Laird finished with 17 points while Jessica Reynolds had nine points and Nikki Worthy added eight points for ACCS, which used a 23-6 advantage in the second quarter to take a 43-17 lead at halftime.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Rebels held the Jackson Victors without a single point to cap off the lopsided victory.
With the win, ACCS improved to 18-2 on the season and will take on Central Hinds Academy today at 1 p.m.
East Rankin Academy 66,
Trinity Episcopal 32
BROOKHAVEN — Karleigh Keeton made three of East Rankin Academy’s nine 3-pointers en route to a 15-point performance and Kaley Gray had 12 points as the Lady Patriots routed the Trinity Episcopal Lady Saints Wednesday morning at the Brookhaven Academy Tournament.
East Rankin led Trinity by just one point, 14-13, at the end of the first quarter. But once the Lady Patriots’ shots started falling in the second quarter, the Lady Saints had no answer for the onslaught.
East Rankin outscored Trinity 24-7 in the second quarter and 16-4 in the third quarter to take a 54-24 lead.
The Lady Saints (6-7) were led by Abbey Ashmore, who made a pair of 3-pointers and ended up with 15 points. With the loss eliminating them from this tournament, they don’t play again until 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2 when they play at Cathedral.
Natchez High 66, Magee 53
MENDENHALL — Ashley Minor scored 19 points and Keyana Miller chipped in with 17 points to lead Natchez High as the Lady Bulldogs got past the Magee Lady Trojans Wednesday morning at the Mendenhall High School Christmas Tournament.
Natchez High took control of the game in the first half and then made sure Magee wouldn’t make a game of it in the second half.
Kiara Johnson added 13 points for the Lady Bulldogs, who improved to 12-4 and will take on Florence at 4:30 p.m. today.
Vidalia 48, Northwood-Lena 19
SICILY ISLAND — The Vidalia Lady Vikings cruised to an easy victory over the Northwood-Lena Lady Gators in the Sicily Island Tournament Wednesday.
Nyishia Randall led Vidalia with a game-high 13 points and Fran Duson ended up with eight points. The Lady Vikings led the Lady Gators 17-3 after one quarter of play and 28-10 at halftime.
Vidalia improved to 2-5 on the season. The Lady Vikings will have a day off before resuming tournament action at 5:40 p.m. Friday against an opponent to be determined.
Franklin County goes 2-0 at Alcorn Central Tournament
GLEN — The Franklin County Lady Bulldogs won both their games this week at the Alcorn Central Tournament despite a nearly six-hour drive from Meadville to Glen.
On Tuesday night, Franklin County easily defeated the Kossuth Lady Aggies 59-40. The Lady Bulldogs were led by Kierra Collins with 17 points and Toni Robinson with 10 points.
Then on Wednesday afternoon, Franklin County had to rally from an eight-point halftime deficit to defeat the Tishomingo County Lady Braves 59-58.
Collins led Franklin County with 22 points while Robinson and Briana Grayson had 10 points each. The Lady Bulldogs begin MHSAA Region 7-3A action on Tuesday, Jan. 3 at Crystal Springs.
Ouachita Christian 59, Ferriday 48
SICILY ISLAND — Sadie Robinson scored 13 points and Holly Tyler added 12 points as the Ouachita Christian School Lady Eagles defeated the Ferriday Lady Trojans Wednesday afternoon at the Sicily Island Tournament.
Ouachita Christian essentially put the game away when it outscored Ferriday 16-10 in the second quarter to go up 29-18 at halftime. Ferriday tried to cut into the deficit during the second half, but the Lady Trojans were not able to put together a big rally to give themselves a chance to win the game.
Ferriday was led by MeElle Reed with a game-high 17 points while Trenia Melancon had 16 points and Sha’Keria Kelly ended up with 11 points. The Lady Trojans (1-7) will take on Tensas Parish at 7:15 p.m. today.
Prairie View Academy 62, Tensas Academy 19
BASTROP, La. — Kristine Lindsey led Prairie View Academy with a game-high 15 points and Dani Anderson had 12 points as the Lady Spartans routed the Tensas Academy Lady Chiefs Wednesday afternoon.
The first quarter was an absolute disaster for Tensas Academy on both ends of the court. Prairie View pretty much did what it wanted to against an overmatched Lady Chiefs team. By the time that quarter was over, the Lady Spartans had a 21-0 lead and rolled from there.
Tensas Academy was led by Melanie Netterville with seven points. The Lady Chiefs next play on Friday, Jan. 6 at Amite School Center in their MAIS District 6-A opener.
