NATCHEZ — Private graveside services for Louis Frank Tageant Sr., 73, of Vidalia, who died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, will be at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Mr. Tageant was born Oct. 3, 1938, in Natchez, the son of Joseph and Julia Tageant.
Louis was a hardworking, quiet, honest man who loved his family. In 2003, Louis, with his wife Jeannie, decided to retire from truck driving in California and move back to Natchez, the place they had always called home. As a young boy, he resided in Natchez where he delivered newspapers on the streets and later went on to work for the city, then with his wife, owned and operated a taxi service. The adventures continued when he moved the family to Montana and Wyoming while working in the oil field and became a business owner of Specialized Oilfield Services and Numark Casing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Irma “Jeannie” Wisner-Tageant; two sisters, Rose Tageant and Mary Short; and one brother, Robert Tageant.
Survivors include two children, Linda McConnelee and husband, Mike, of Orange, Calif., and Louis Tageant Jr. of Vidalia; two grandsons, Gene Gilleland Jr. and wife, Elizabeth, of Orange and Hayden Tageant of Rawlins, Wyo.; one great-grandchild, Grace Gilleland of Orange; one sister, Julia Reeves and husband, Claude, of Natchez; three brothers, Joseph Tageant and wife, Pearl, of Vidalia, Jessie Tageant of Ferriday and Phillip Tageant of Denver, Colo.; and a number of nieces, nephews and his beloved Wisner family in-laws.
A special thank you to Julia “Dolly” Reeves for all the love and support. The loving care she showed was invaluable to keeping our family close and sane throughout this heart breaking time. We also appreciate the extraordinary care he received from the ICU staff at Promise Hospital in Vidalia where he lost his battle with C.O.P.D.
