Cathedral cruises 63-23

WOODVILLE — D.J. Perry had another double-double for Cathedral as he finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds as the Green Wave annihilated the Amite School Center Rebels 63-23 Friday afternoon at the WCCA Tournament.
Perry was named the Most Valuable Player on the boys’ side of the tournament after averaging 17 points a game in Cathedral’s three games. The Green Wave finished in first place after going 3-0 in the tournament.
Caleb Upton had 12 points and Jarrell Johnson scored 11 points for the Green Wave. Cathedral had its way with Amite School Center during the first three quarters. The Green Wave led the Rebels 26-9 after one quarter of play, 44-14 at halftime, and 54-18 at the end of three quarter.
With the win, Cathedral improved to 9-6 on the season. The Green Wave will host Trinity Episcopal at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
Ferriday 45, Vidalia 38
SICILY ISLAND — After being held to just nine points in the third quarter, the Ferriday Trojans lit up the Vidalia Vikings in the fourth quarter of their game Friday night at the Sicily Island Tournament.
Ferriday would end up outscoring Vidalia 17-7 in the final quarter to turn a three-point deficit at the end of three quarters into a hard-fought 45-38 win to go over the .500 mark for the season.
Brandon Scott led Ferriday (6-5) with a game-high 12 points and Freddie Gray had six points. Vidalia (7-1) was led by Trey Birgis with 10 points and Dee Whitley with seven points.
The Trojans play host to Sicily Island on Tuesday. The Vikings will also be at home on Tuesday when they take on Jefferson County.
WCCA 75, Centreville Academy 63
WOODVILLE — Ethan Carruth scored 16 points and Dre’ Tolliver had 14 points as the Wilkinson County Christian Academy Rams defeated the Centreville Academy Tigers Friday night in the final game of the 2011 WCCA Tournament.
Two other players for WCCA scored in double figures to offset big games by Centreville’s tandem of Chance Humphreys and Michael Keith, who scored 26 and 21 points, respectively. The Rams led the Tigers 41-29 at halftime and both teams played pretty even in the second half.
WCCA hosts Prentiss Christian School on Thursday, Centreville (5-8) returns on MAIS District 6-AA play on that same day when they play at Silliman Institute.
Jefferson County finishes second at its own
tournament
FAYETTE — The Jefferson County Tigers had a good showing for themselves earlier this week at the Jefferson County Holiday Tournament. So much so that they finished in second place behind the only team that defeated them — the East Feliciana (La.) Tigers.
Jefferson County defeated Amite County on Tuesday night, but then lost to East Feliciana Wednesday night. The host Tigers rebounded by defeating the Hinds Agricultural High School Bulldogs Thursday night to go 2-1.
East Feliciana went 3-0 with wins over Hinds AHS Tuesday night and Amite County Thursday night.
Jefferson County next plays at Vidalia on Tuesday.
