NATCHEZ — Trinity Episcopal had too much talent and too much depth for Prairie View Academy to keep up with as the Saints handily defeated the Spartans 71-33 Tuesday night.

Garrett Vinson led the fifth-ranked team in Class AA with 16 points while Sky Logan scored 13 points and Carter Smith added 12 points. As a team, Trinity had 10 players reach the scoring column with six of them having at least six points.

The Saints led by 10 points at the end of the first quarter before putting the game away with a decisive 23-8 advantage in the second quarter for a 43-18 halftime lead. Prairie View did play a little better in the third quarter, but the Spartans still were outscored by Trinity 19-12 and trailed 62-30 at the end of the quarter.

Trinity Episcopal improved to 12-3 overall and will take on the undefeated Jackson Prep Patriots, the No. 1 team in Class AAA, in its first game at the Jackson Academy Tournament. That game will take place today at 5:15 p.m.

Ferriday girls 77, Sicily Island 32

FERRIDAY — Sha’Keria Kelly scored almost as many points by herself as Sicily Island had as a team as she finished with a career-high 31 points in leading the Ferriday Trojans to an easy win over the Tigers Tuesday night.

Ferriday came out red hot from the field and kept putting the pressure on Sicily Island from the opening minutes of the game. By the time the first quarter was over, the Lady Trojans enjoyed a 22-6 lead. And by halftime they led the Lady Tigers 36-12.

Even though Sicily Island scored one more point in the third quarter than they did the entire first half, Ferriday still outscored the Lady Tigers 24-13 to take a 60-25 lead into the fourth quarter.

MeElle Reed had 17 points and TreNia Melancon scored 15 points for Ferriday (3-9), which plays at Block Friday night.

Prairie View girls 59, Trinity Episcopal 47

NATCHEZ — Taking on one of the top teams in Class AA, Trinity Episcopal played well against Prairie View Academy in the first half and trailed by just three points at halftime.

However, the Lady Spartans pulled away in the third quarter and eventually took a 12-point win over the Lady Saints Tuesday night. Prairie View led Trinity 28-25 at the half and then outscored the Lady Saints 15-10 in the third quarter for a 43-35 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Prairie View was led by Victoria Simmons and Kristin Kindrix with 14 points apiece. Abbey Ashmore had a game-high 17 points while Rosie Woods had 10 points for Trinity Episcopal (7-8). The Lady Saints take on Yazoo County Thursday at 7 p.m. in their first game at the Jackson Academy Tournament.

Ferriday boys 53, Sicily Island 48

FERRIDAY — Marlon Jackson scored 14 points and Ted’Rai Gullage had 12 points for Ferriday, which jumped out to a big lead after one quarter of play and then held on for a five-point win over Sicily Island Tuesday night.

The Trojans played well defensively in the opening quarter on their way to a 17-8 lead at the end of the quarter. The Tigers responded by outscoring the Trojans 14-10 in the second quarter to cut Ferriday’s lead to five points, 27-22, at halftime.

But in the second half, Sicily Island was not able to continue its rally. And Ferriday made sure of it. The Trojans upped their lead to six at the end of the third quarter and the Tigers were only able to trim the lead back to five points at the end of the game.

Ferriday got back to the .500 mark for the season at 6-6 overall and plays at Block on Friday night.

Franklin County girls 57, Crystal Springs 34

CRYSTAL SPRINGS — Latorya Griffin ended up with 10 points and KiArra Sykes had nine points to lead a balanced scoring attack for Franklin County as the Lady Bulldogs upended the Crystal Springs Lady Tigers Tuesday night.

Despite getting off to a slow start offensively, Franklin County still managed a 12-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. Then the Lady Bulldogs found their rhythm in a big way in the second quarter and ended up outscoring Crystal Springs 20-11 for a 32-17 halftime lead.

And just when the Lady Tigers didn’t think it could get any worse for them, it did. They were held to a mere six points in the third quarter while the Lady Bulldogs scored 19 points en route to a commanding 51-23 lead.

Shaquan Byther led Crystal Springs with 10 points and Tanesha Towns chipped in with seven points. Kierra Collins scored eight points while Toni Robinson, Mildred Starks and Sabrina Brown had six points each for Franklin County (11-4, 1-0), which hosts Wilkinson County Friday night.
