teams before Cathedral finally got on the board with 5:25 left in the first half. Kyle Bradley took a pass that Hogue said Bradley probably wanted to score on, but because of the angle, Bradley could only pass it back to midfielder Dylan Sandidge. But Sandidge caught the St. Al keeper on the right side of the goal and kicked the ball in the left corner for the Green Wave’s first score.

A goal by St. Al’s Jose Sanchez tied the game with 15:44 in the second half, but it was the only one the Flashes would score the entire game. Even so, Hogue admitted that the last two minutes of the game were nerve-wracking.

“They did a full-court press (at the end), and that had me a little concerned,” Hogue said. “For those final two minutes, I held my breath.”

But the Green Wave held off the Flashes, notching a big win against their chief rival from Vicksburg.

“We played them in the second game of the year, and they beat us 3-1,” Hogue said. “This was big, not just because of the rivalry, but we’ve also been on a bit of a losing streak.

“I’m feeling good about the new lineup. I think winning tonight will be really big for the games to come.”

Kayla Cauthern and Marty Ellard scored Cathedral’s only goals as the Lady Flashes beat the Lady Green Wave.

Cathedral fell to 8-3 on the season.
