NATCHEZ — Services for Sandy Nealy, 93, of Natchez, who died Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at Veteran’s Manor Assistant Living Facility in Natchez, will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Christian Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. John Scott Jr. officiating.

Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until service time Sunday at the church.

Mr. Nealy was born Jan. 9, 1919, in Union Church, the son of Sam and Alice Nealy. He was Baptist.

Mr. Nealy was employed by JohnsManville Company for 32 years. He served in the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran. In 1967, he was elected the first African American to serve as Constable for District four in Adams County.

Mr. Nealy served on the Board of the Natchez Civil Service Commission, was a member of the NAACP and was founder and past president of the Sportsmen Club, Inc.

Mr. Nealy was dedicated to serving his country, the Natchez community and he was a human rights champion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lula Wesby Nealy; one brother, Billy Hammitt; and one sister, Bernice Johnson-McNeil.

Survivors include two sons, Louis Edward Nealy and wife, Linda, of Natchez and Terrence W. Nealy and wife, Priscilla, of Winter Haven, Fla.; one daughter, Alfreda Q. Nealy-Gamble of Humble, Texas; 12 grandchildren, Phyliss Rose and husband, Michael, Stephanie Mosby and husband, Charles, Bridgett Chives, Ivy Nealy, Kevin Nealy, Greg Akins and wife, Deloise, Travis Nealy and wife, Miranda, Philip Gamble, Terrance J. Nealy, Gerika Gamble, Darrell Tuesno and Lakeisha Tuesno; and a number great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
