NATCHEZ — Because of a scheduling conflict early in the season, Adams County Christian School’s girls will face Columbia Academy again tonight after having just played them Friday.

In the last meeting between the two, ACCS (20-3) fell to the Lady Cougars 61-54 at home, and tonight’s game will be at Columbia Academy. The two teams were scheduled to face off earlier this season, but the date had to be changed, ACCS girls coach Melanie Hall said.

Hall said tonight was the only night the two teams were both available to play.

“(My daughter) Brandi and I are actually on the way to Columbia now,” Hall said Monday afternoon. “We want to take a look at Simpson Academy just in case we end up playing them (in the playoffs).”

But Hall said it also helps that Simpson Academy’s opponent just happens to be the team her girls are facing tonight.

“Playing back-to-back has its advantages and disadvantages,” Hall said. “I’d love to break down the game film and focus on that particular team, them being a district opponent and all.”

Specifically, Hall said Columbia Academy post player Sissy Price and point guard Anna Wilks present a problem for defenders.

“They ran a two-man game where they isolated those two on the same side,” Hall said. “(Wilks) has quickness and speed, and can go either way well, and (Price) moves well. We just have to do a better job with them.”

Hall said her Lady Rebels and Columbia Academy are very similar teams, and her girls aren’t going to get down when playing the Lady Cougars again just because they’re 0-2 in district play.

“You can’t go by records, wins and losses,” Hall said. “I think the girls know we’re in what’s the most rugged district in Double-A, in my opinion.

“We just have to focus on doing the things that we do, win, lose or draw. I think our team feels like they can compete with anyone, and that’s the important part.”

After Columbia Academy tonight, the Lady Rebels return home Friday to host Brookhaven Academy.

“They’re a good basketball team, and they have two good players that have been there, done that,” Hall said.

“We just have to focus on the things we do well, and the rest will take care of itself. We can’t get caught up in the names of the jerseys our opponents are wearing. We have to believe when we step onto the court.”

But Hall said she’s proud of the way her girls have played through this point in the season.

“I’ve said this before, but they complement each other so well, and they’re so unselfish,” Hall said. “They’re just going to go out to play, and they play to win, for God’s glory.”
