RIDGECREST — Services for Oscar A. Montpelier, 77, of Vidalia, who died Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at Heritage Manor Nursing Center in Ferriday after an extended illness, will be at 11 a.m. today at Ridgecrest Baptist Church with the Rev. Denny Braswell and the Rev. Preston Holder officiating.

Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery near Winnsboro under the direction of Comer Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the church.

Mr. Montpelier was born Nov. 9, 1934, in Catahoula Parish, the son of Allen N. and Gladys Boyd Montpelier. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church.

Mr. Montpelier served in the U.S. Army and was an avid outdoorsman, spending time hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ethel Tarver and Geniva Maples; one daughter, Lorie Ann Charrier; and one granddaughter, Kimberly Charrie Charrier.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn L. Montpelier; four children, Timothy Alan Montpelier of Ferriday, Christina Montpelier Smith of Vidalia, Lisa Dolix of South Carolina and Susan Ricks of Florida; two granddaughters, Heather Charrier and Grace Montpelier, both of Ferriday; two grandsons, John Michael Charrier of Manifest and Colton Alan Montpelier of Ferriday; three special nieces, Sandra Wynn of Wisner, Debbie Nobles of Winnsboro and Deborah “Sissy” Byrnes of Ferriday; and a number of great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Tim Alsobrooks, Greg Randall, Tommy Barron, Paul Harris, Freddie Trisler and Donnie Byrnes.
