Jabez Reeves

NATCHEZ — Services for Jabez Reeves, 83, of Natchez, who died Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Zion Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Birdon Mitchell officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.

Mr. Reeves was born Oct. 3, 1928, in Chicago, the son of Sellice Reeves and Nancy R. Carter Reeves. He was a Seventh Day Adventist.

Mr. Reeves served in the U.S. Air Force and was retired from the Chicago Board of Education as a supervisor in the recreation department.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters, Rena Reeves and Donna Cheers.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Owens Reeves; six children, Mona Powell of Cartersville, Ga., Cynthia Reeves, Charles Reeves and Undina Floyd, all of Chicago, Victor Reeves and Derrick Reeves, both of Minneapolis and Donvezell Lee of St. Louis; one sister, Esther Shaw of San Jose, Calif.; three sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; 18 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
