Two more officers were called to the scene for crowd control, a Natchez police report says, at the time of Chatman’s arrest.

A second officer apparently told Ricardo D. Page, 18, 2747 Itasca Drive, to stop smoking on campus, and Page was arrested after he refused to comply and resisted arrest.

The report says Page cursed at police, telling them he was only smoking a cigarette and to “back off.”

Police reportedly continued to ask Page to comply with campus rules and put out the cigarette as Page continued to yell at the officer.

When an officer told Page he was going to arrest him, Page reportedly snatched his hand “aggressively,” and continued to resist arrest. The officer then Tased Page with a five-second burst. Page was then transported to NPD and booked at 9:35 p.m. on charges of failure to comply with request and resisting arrest.

Following Page’s arrest, a third suspect, Shanteria M. Hawkins, 19, 8 Davis Court, reportedly began to yell at police, saying, “This is some bull—-,” and refused to give an officer her name when he asked what it was.

Hawkins was arrested and booked at 9:23 p.m., as well, on charges of disturbing the peace and providing false information or identification to a law enforcement officer.

Natchez Police Interim Chief Danny White could not be reached for comment about what the suspects were doing on campus.
