Stay involved, despite casino resolution

Well, at least there is a bit of resolution to the latest casino debate.
We aren’t sure the city made the right move Wednesday when five aldermen voted to accept the Roth Hill casino developers’ third amendment to the lease agreement, but we can’t change that vote now.
Instead, we hope citizens who became vocal and involved during the last few weeks won’t be discouraged at the way city leaders sometimes treated them.
Closed doors and even public chidings from the mayor do little to encourage much-needed community involvement in local government, but taxpayers must remember that they are always in the majority and hold the deciding vote in upcoming elections.
It’s unfortunate that a decision that will continue to affect this community for decades and decades to come was made just two months before important city elections.
We hope the people of Natchez didn’t get a raw deal.
As we move forward together, we hope this community will continue to look out for the best interest of the group. More casino decisions are likely to come, and we hope the public is invited to the table.
At the very least, we hope the city will step up and quickly answer questions posed by the public and the city’s long-time resident casino, the Isle of Capri Casino.
The public deserves answers now and as the casino progresses.
