HAMBURG — Franklin County remains in a boil-water alert after a main water line in Hamburg broke Monday.

Franklin County Water Association employee Jan Graves said the main line was repaired shortly after the break Monday, but that the boil-water alert must remain until two consecutive days of clear water samples can be submitted and processed.

The alert affects approximately 187 customers in the area and all other residents who receive drinking water from the Franklin County water supply.

Mississippi State Department of Health received the notification of a system wide pressure loss after the line break.

When a distribution system loses pressure, contaminants can siphon back into the water.

Health officials strongly recommend that all water be boiled for one minute before it is consumed.
