GALLMAN — Centreville Academy sophomore Colby Shaw limited Copiah Academy to just two hits as the Tigers rolled to a 10-0 win over the Colonels in five innings Monday night to remain undefeated.
Shaw went the distance as he struck out eight batters and walked none. He got plenty of run support early as Centreville took an 2-0 lead in the first inning and then put the game out of reach with five runs in the top of the second inning.
“We got a great pitching performance from Colby Shaw. He did a great job getting ahead in the count,” Centreville head coach Jason Horne said.
The Tigers added three runs in the top of the fifth to put the 10-run mercy rule after five innings in affect and Shaw pitched his fifth straight shutout inning to end the game early.
Tyler Towles led the Tigers at the plate by going 3-for-3. Shaw and Chance Humpheys each went 2-for-3. Cliff Hurst was 2-for-4 with a double while Randy Beall and Hunter Travis both had a double.
“We had some timely hitting early. We’re coming together as a ball team,” Horne said.
Doug Strait had the only two hits for Copiah Academy (1-3), and both of those were singles.
Centreville Academy (3-0) plays at Parklane Academy today. The junior varsity game starts at 5 p.m. and will be followed by the varsity game at 7 p.m.

VIDALIA — Corey Williams overcame six walks by pitching a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts as the Vidalia Vikings shut out the Bolton Bears Monday night in their home- and season-opener.
Vidalia finally broke a scoreless game with three runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Vikings added one run in the bottom of the fifth inning and then scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Matt Souderes went 2-for-3 and Roper Craft had a double as the Vikings finished with eight hits. Vidalia (1-0) next plays at Peabody with the JV game at 4 p.m. and the varsity game at 6 p.m.
