JONESVILLE — Kade Passman scattered seven hits over seven innings and struck out seven batters as the Monterey Wolves defeated the Block Bears 12-3 Tuesday night.
Monterey got off to a good start by scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. The Wolves then scored two runs in the top of the third inning to take a 4-0 lead and they added two more runs in the top of the sixth to go up 6-0.
And that was plenty of run support for Passman, who kept Block off the scoreboard until the bottom of the fifth inning. That’s when the Bears scored two runs to make it a 6-2 game. However, they would get no closer than that.
The Wolves scored three runs in both the top of the sixth and seventh innings to go on top 12-2 and essentially put the game out of reach. The Bears scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the seventh. Taylor Perrin led Monterey at the plate by going 3-for-4 and Tanner Coldiron was 2-for-3.
Dillon Smith went 2-for-5 with a double and Hunter Frey was 3-for-5 to lead Monterey.
It was a tough night for all three of Monterey’s pitchers. Dillon Mayo got the start and was charged with the loss after allowing four runs on four hits and five walks with two strikeouts in four innings.
Perrin came on in relief of Mayo and did not do any batter. Perrin gave up five runs on four hits and a pair of walks while striking out none. Will Hawthorne pitched the seventh inning for the Wolves and allowed three runs on two hits with one strikeout and one walk.
Both Monterey (3-1) and Block (2-2) next play at the Monterey Tournament, which takes place Friday and Saturday.
