Baseball roundup: Tigers stay untamed

CENTREVILLE — Cliff Hurst had a strong five-inning performance for Centreville Academy as the Tigers remained undefeated Friday night after an 11-0 win against Covenant Christian School out of Yazoo City.

Hurst gave up just two hits, two walks and struck out eight for the Tigers (5-0), and head coach Jason Horne said Hurst battled through sloppy playing conditions.

“We had to pull the tarp once,” Horne said. “Hurst pitched well, and we had some good hitting. He had eight strikeouts and threw a great game.”

Horne said Hurst’s slider was effective for him tonight, and the Convenant Christian batters never could get comfortable at the plate.

“He kept them off balance when he was throwing with his fastballs and coming in with a slider,” Horne said.

Tyler Towles had the Tigers’ lone extra-base hit, a double. Randy Bell and Gage Chandler both went 2-for-2 at the plate.

Centreville will play Tuesday at Brookhaven Academy.
