Spruce up, company’s coming

The last frenzied preparations are surely under way all around us today. It’s opening night and the curtains will open soon.
But, if this were Broadway, Natchez would be the long-running “Cats.”
Natchez has danced this show before, and we certainly know the drill.
Spring Pilgrimage is no less important or routine, though, and all local residents need to take some time today to prepare.
Whether you will glide, scepter in hand as the queen of Pilgrimage or you’ll merely drive by a tourist or two in the coming weeks, Pilgrimage affects you.
This season is — in so many ways — the lifeblood of our local economy. It’s a massive shot in the arm, whether the community is battling the flu or just wants some economic vitamins.
Please realize the importance of Pilgrimage and do your part.
Spruce up your yard; pick up that litter you pass on city streets. Find your smile and brush up on directions to Longwood.
Invite old friends and family members to visit.
Be on your best behavior, Natchez, company is coming.
Our antebellum houses are sublime, our azaleas truly pop and some of our restaurants are truly to die for. But the things tourists will remember — good or bad — are their interactions with the people of Natchez.
Let’s send them packing with fond memories and a plan to return soon.
