MONTEREY — Lexi Miller’s two-run double in the top of the eighth inning proved to be the difference as the Oak Hill Lady Rams rallied to defeat the Monterey Lady Wolves 3-2 Tuesday afternoon.
With the loss, Monterey dropped into a three-way tie in LHSAA District 4-B with Avoyelles Charter and Grace Christian with three district games to go.
The game turned out to be a pitchers’ duel between Oak Hill’s Katie Smith and Monterey’s Ellen Bairnsfather. Smith allowed two earned runs on eight hits, struck out three and walked one to get the win. Bairnsfather took the loss as she gave up three runs (none of them earned) on seven hits to go with six strikeouts and one walk.
Monterey jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but Smith pitched six straight scoreless innings to keep Oak Hill in the game. The Lady Rams tied the game in the top of the fifth inning.
After Miller gave the Lady Rams the lead in the top of the eighth, Monterey scored one run in the bottom of the eighth to make it a 3-2 game, but could not push across the game-tying run to extend the game.
Karlee Woodruff led Monterey by going 2-for-4 with a double and Ashley Wilson had an RBI single. Bairnsfather, Bailey New, Kennedy Poole, Jody Duncan and Ashley Blake each has a base hit for the Lady Wolves. Lauren Bristec went 2-for-3 for Oak Hill.

LaSalle 5, Block 3
OLLA, La. — Kayla Smith was unable to hold an early 1-0 lead as LaSalle scored five runs over a three-inning stretch in leading the Lady Tigers past the Block Lady Bears in LHSAA District 4-1A action Tuesday afternoon.
After Block scored first in the top of the first inning, LaSalle responded with one run in the bottom of the second inning, two in the bottom of the third and two more in the bottom of the fourth for a 5-1 lead.
The pitching of K. White was also a key factor in the game. She helped LaSalle take the lead for good by keeping Block off the scoreboard for five consecutive innings. The Lady Bears scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning, but it was not enough.
Maura Cooper and Michala Hughes each went 2-for-3 and Nikki Harbor had a double for the Lady Bears. LaSalle was led by A. Humphries, who went 2-for-2 with a double and a triple, and A. Sanders, who was 2-for-3 with a double.
