BOGUE CHITTO — Cathedral School’s Ginny Daggett came to the plate with the bases loaded in the fifth inning and turned a one-run deficit into a three-run lead Thursday night at Bogue Chitto.
Daggett’s grand slam pushed Cathedral to a 6-3 road win.
“Playing Bogue Chitto, we knew it was going to be a battle, and it was,” Cathedral coach Gary Blackwell said. “The girls were up and ready to play,”
Blackwell said the Lady Green Wave was on a mission on the road trip
“They knew what this game meant to them,” Blackwell said. “They told us before that they weren’t leaving with a loss, and they played that way through the game.”
Blackwell said Cathedral pitcher Mollie Devening threw a solid complete game to keep Cathedral in the contest until Daggett’s big hit.
Beth Fortenbery chipped in for the Cathedral offense going 3-for-3 with a double. Devening also doubled in the game.
The win put Cathedral at 14-4-1 on the season and 6-0 in MHSAA Region 7-1A. The Green Wave will face McComb today.
Seminary 11, Franklin County 10
SEMINARY — A six-run lead going into the final two innings was not enough for the Franklin County softball team to bring home a win Thursday night at Seminary.
The Lady Bulldogs led 10-4 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, but Seminary scored four runs in the sixth and three in the seventh to come from behind and win 11-10.
Lay Lay Griffin took the loss for the Lady Bulldogs. She also went 2-for-5 at the plate with a double. Courtney Hauer went 3-for-4 with a double for Franklin County.
The loss dropped the Lady Bulldogs to 7-10-1 on the season. They will face West Marion today.
