NATCHEZ — Minister Muhammad Al Waaled is in Natchez on a mission, to help his black brothers and sisters.
The Nation of Islam minister is back in the area after being away for some time, and he said he is looking for a space from which he can base his work.
“I have been out in the community, out soldiering in the community talking to a lot of young people, sitting down with the gang bangers here in Natchez,” he said.
“I am here to turn my young people around where they can have a future and jobs and do something for themselves.”
Waaled said he will take his fight against violence and guns to the street, but that he will also take a stand to keep local politicians and ministers honest.
“A lot of people talk — I don’t like talking,” he said. “I speak with action.”
Waaled said he is a man of peace and is motivated by love for his people, and he is asking local ministers to sit down at the table with him and dialogue with him about what plans he has and about what can be done to better the lives of those on the streets.
