NATCHEZ — A Natchez woman faces charges she neglected two dogs to the point of death and several others to the point of malnourishment.

LaToya Burden, 25, 1414 Watkins St., was arrested Tuesday on charges of cruelty to animals. She was released later that day on a $1,000 bond.

An Adams County Sheriff Office spokesperson said a deputy responded to 1360 Martin Luther King Jr. St., March 29 after receiving a complaint from a neighbor about several neglected animals at that address.

When the deputy arrived, he reportedly found the decaying carcass of an adult canine in a doghouse in the yard.

Two other young dogs were reportedly discovered tied under the house by a cable wire.

When the deputy entered the house, officials allege he found the body of a dead puppy in the front of the residence and four more malnourished puppies in the rear of the house.

The animals, mixed breed dogs with suspected pit bull heritage, were turned over to the humane society and are being nursed back to health.

The property is a rental home, and Burden was the last person connected with the location, the ACSO spokesperson said.

The house was reportedly free of furniture.
