Farewell Pilgrimage, hello Queen

Hoopskirts and top hats headed back into storage this weekend, as Natchez’s busiest tourism season came to a close.
Tourism officials deemed it a successful Spring Pilgrimage, despite high gas prices and economic woes.
Thank you to all those who work so hard during pilgrimage to coordinate a variety of events, house tours and friendly welcomes. Our city relies on you and appreciates you.
Let’s review a few other good things that occurred last week as well.
•The Natchez-Adams School District honored top teachers and parents from each school. Shamekia Issac received the teacher of the year title for the district, and Elizabeth Blalock took the parent of the year title. We know our teachers and parents devote countless hours daily to give our children a brighter future.
•Ferriday Junior High School has put some of its top students to work in the school’s office. Jasmine Lewis, Alexius Calhoun and Nathaniel Hood are among the students who spend part of their day taking care of odd jobs in the office. The students help out, but more important they are learning how to work with people. It’s not textbook learning, but these lessons might just be the most important ones of all.
•Adams County Christian School celebrated spring and school pride Saturday with its annual Spring Fling. We are glad area children had a fun day.
•The American Queen steamboat will start this workweek off early with a bit of calliope music and approximately 400 visitors. We welcome them all to our great city.
