NATCHEZ — Services for Bessie Conrad Sago, 79, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at her residence, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at New Zion Baptist Church No. 1 with the Rev. James Beverly and the Rev. Ernest Ford Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow at Cedar Rest Cemetery No. 2 in Wilkinson County under the direction of Robert D. Mackel Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home with Eastern Star Rites at 6 p.m.
Mrs. Sago was born June 9, 1932, in Wilkinson County, the daughter of Joseph Conrad and Mattie Noble Conrad. She attended King Ford School.
Mrs. Sago accepted Christ at an early age in 1947 at King Ford Baptist Church in Wilkinson County and later united with New Zion Baptist Church No. 1 and was a faithful member and mother for 61 years. She was also a member of Queen Esther No. 1 Adah Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Pinkie Jackson Amaranth Court, Alkoran Court No. 1 Daughter of Spinx, L.E. Spencer Administrative Council and Heroines of Jericho.
July 29, 1950, she was united in holy matrimony to Joseph Sago. To this union five sons and four daughters were born. She was employed by Dr. Robert Barnes and the late Betty Barnes.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Patricia JoAnn Sago; one sister, Helen Conrad Thompson; and her parents.
Survivors include three daughters, Flora Sago McKnight and husband, Larry, of Cannonsburg, Mary Sago Scott and husband, Herman, and Linda Sago Birdsong and husband, Kenneth, all of Natchez; five sons, Joseph Conrad and wife, Geraldine, Monroe Sago and wife, Betty, John Sago and wife, Rena, and the Rev. Walter L. Sago and wife, Janice, all of Natchez, and Johnny Sago and wife, Janice, of Baton Rouge; one niece, Brenda H. McKnight of Akron, Ohio; 18 grandchildren, Trojuan Cornett and wife, Carlett, of Dallas, Stephanie Vivans and husband, Timonty, of Jackson, Wanda Conrad of Baton Rouge, Danielle Claiborne of Houston, Texas, Byron Sago and wife, LaTanya, of Forthood, Texas, Brock Conrad, Demetris Nelson, Crystal Conrad, Cortland Sago and Jenyvette Brice, Lynsheika McKnight Rowan and husband, Kendrizle, Janicia and Kimberly Sago, Kenneth and Kendrice Birdsong and De’Vonte Sago, all of Natchez, Bessie January and husband, Lee Andrew, of Fayette, Wykinia and Akina Sago of Atlanta; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a number of great-nieces, nephews, relatives, friends; a special friend, Bessie Ransom of Natchez; and a special cousin, Jim Prater.
